The Chess Angle Podcast
Whether I’m out walking the dog or on a long drive, I love listening to a good chess podcast. It’s an easy way to enjoy the game when there’s no board in sight.
There are plenty of great shows out there, but one I keep coming back to is The Chess Angle. It’s released weekly and available on all the usual platforms. (Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Castro | RSS Feed).
What makes this one stand out for me is how relevant it is for players like us — the busy amateur enthusiasts and club players who love chess but don’t always have hours to spare for deep study. It’s hosted by an enthusiastic fellow club player from Long Island, USA, and packed with practical tips on organising your study time, useful book recommendations, and advice on improving your approach to club play.
A real highlight is the “mail bag” segment, where listener questions are answered. It’s reassuring to hear that so many of us have the same challenges and curiosities about the game.
Although the show is based in the US, the topics and advice translate perfectly for players here in the UK too. Also, there’s an excellent back catalogue of episodes to catch up on.
If you haven’t listened before, it’s worth trying a couple of episodes. See if you like it as I do.
